MARCH 2021: Our Partnership with Tri-City Medical Center’s COASTAL Commitment
Tri-City Medical Center supports New Haven’s various career technical education programs where students learn valuable real-world job skills and build confidence. Through Tri-City’s COASTAL Commitment partnership, it has supported our New Haven Woodcraft program which teaches students to learn advanced furniture and cabinetry craftsmanship.
We also receive support for our Catering4Youth program where students learn industry-based standards around the kitchen, creating job opportunities for students in the hospitality environment.
Both programs are student-run and a part of their entrepreneurial leadership curriculum where you can purchase woodcraft products or allow students to cater your next event! For more information, email info@newhavenyfs.org
JULY 2021 New Haven Youth and Family Services Opens New Program for Adolescent Boys
New Haven Youth and Family Services is pleased to announce the opening of Meadow Lake, their new residence for at-risk and foster adolescent boys. Meadow Lake will serve boys 14-18 years old with traumatic histories of abuse as well as emotional, behavioral and learning challenges.
“The goal of Meadow Lake,” said CEO, Doreen Quinn, “is to stabilize the boys with education, job skills and necessary life skills to enter adulthood with strength. Our past success with this process has set us on a path to help more boys to transform their lives with some professional support.”
Meadow Lake began accepting boys for their program in June of 2021 after the renovation of the house was complete. The boys live onsite with a rotation of professionals who attend to their emotional healing, continuation of their high school classes through graduation and a sense of community to assist in the transition to independent lives.
“The inside of the house is beautiful and welcoming.” said Diana Aaron, Vice President of Philanthropy. “Now we hope to transform the outside with sports courts, landscaping and group areas. We are seeking funding of $100,000 to complete this project.”
New Haven has been an enduring steward of hope since 1967 for more than 17,600 youths and their families by breaking down barriers and building bright futures.
Financial and volunteer support is a continued objective with the goal to ensure service to as many boys as possible.
